The Natiyanjali Dance AcademyNatiyanjali is a leading Australian-Indian dance academy based in Sydney, Australia and dedicated to the promotion and propagation of Bharatha Natyam, a classical Indian dance form.
Founded in 1985 by artistic director Usha Karunaharan, the Sydney arm of Natiyanjali was established in 1994 and has grown to include branches in Eastwood, Crestwood and Strathfield.
Over the past 12 years, the academy has established a reputation for excellence in emotive performance and innovative choreography, and gained accolades for the talent and technical perfection exhibited by its students.
Natiyanjali has staged numerous productions - original works choreographed by the guru, Usha Karunaharan - to great acclaim. These unique works have included odes to Hindu mythology and socially thematic performances which highlight issues relevant to today's world. Many of these productions were staged to sell-out crowds in aid of worthwhile charitable causes - most recently, Natya Samarpana II raised over $16 000 for orphanages in Sri Lanka.
Natiyanjali has also been invited to participate at various festivals and shows around NSW. These include multicultural celebrations at State Parliament , exhibitions conducted by the Art Gallery of NSW and the Asian Music and Dance Festival.
Natiyanjali continues to nurture and educate its students and the wider Community on the beauty, grace and cultural traditions of Bharatha Natyam, whilst continually exploring avenues to unite this Eastern art form with more contemporary influences.
We dance for laughter, we dance for tears, we dance for madness, we dance for fears, we dance for hopes, we dance for screams, we are the dancers, we create the dreams
